Brief explanation: Substances with different surface tensions cannot adhere or flow together (e.g. oil and water). Surfactants are the elements which can change the surface tension thus enabling the interaction and adherence of different substances. The term surfactant is a blend of surface active agent. They are soluble in both organic solvents and water. They also reduce the interfacial tension between oil and water by adsorbing at the liquid-liquid interface.
Ordinary chemical washing up (dishwashing) detergent, will promote water penetration in soil, but the effect would only last a few days, while many standard laundry detergent powders contain levels of chemicals such as sodium and boron, which can be damaging to plants and should not be applied to soils. The surfactants of faligran® will not only continue to work for a considerable period, but they also will be degraded by soil micro-organisms without interfering with their life-cycles.
One of the reasons for the high efficiency of faligran® surfactants is their low surface tension of 30 - 20 mN/m. This enables the cleaner’s emulsification even with the most resistant contaminants. Until recently such efficiency could have been reached only by extremely aggressive or toxic chemicals.
A remarkable feature of faligran® is that it does not contain any chlorides of fatty acids using instead a mixture of yeasts and hempseed oil which guarantee the product’s full biological degradation.
